Responsibilities

We are looking for a proven self-starter who has a solid employee relations background to be a People Relations Specialist reporting to the Director, Employee Relations working out of our Chantilly, VA office. This individual will have exceptional communication skills and will love working in a dynamic environment. Our People Relations Specialist will investigate and provide expert direction, guidance and consulting on a wide range of complex employee relations issues.   This role requires an unquestionable sense of integrity, ethics, judgement, and discretion.  The core responsibilities are to respond to employees and all levels of management on employee relations inquiries and issues such as misconduct, performance deficiencies and accommodation requests.
 

Key Functions

  • Partner with and coach managers at all levels to provide objective guidance and advice regarding employment policies and employment practices to achieve resolution of complex issues.
  • Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations into workplace issues, complaints and violations of our company policies.  Analyze and evaluate the findings to determine the company`s response to the complaints. Report investigation findings to management and guide and provide expert direction to resolve the issue on cases investigated involving employees.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions).
  • Evaluate requests for workplace accommodations.
  • Interpret and research policies and procedures, incorporating knowledge of state and federal employment laws (i.e. ADA, FMLA, EEO) and practices to recommend resolutions to complex employee relations issues.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Coach employees at all levels of the company on employee relations topics.
  • Provide subject matter expertise as requested by other departments within People Operations.
  • Establish credibility and rapport by developing and maintaining strong and effective working relationships with all levels of management and employees regarding all types of employee relation issues (ADA, FMLA, misconduct, time and attendance etc).
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, security, internal audit, Strategic People Partners and other key partners.
     

Qualifications

Required

  • BA/ BS degree in Human Resources, Behavioral Sciences, or related discipline
  • 10 or more years’ experience in Human Resources, including 5 or more years of direct experience in employee relations, labor relations, or labor/employment law

 
Preferred

  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and consulting with managers and employees
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of effective employee relations practices and employment and labor laws and regulations
  • Ability to exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills and high level of initiative
  • Experience with conflict resolution strategies
  • Strong project and time management skills; extremely organized and able to work across multiple departments and stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
