Responsibilities

The Office of Product Management (OPM) is responsible for establishing and executing a product assurance baseline for hardware and software products and prototypes developed or operated by Aerospace. We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join the OPM team in a forward leaning leadership role in Chantilly. The successful applicant will promote, socialize, and support the execution of right-sized product development processes for Aerospace projects that result in a deliverable product or a high consequence testbed.The person selected will have the experience to help tailor internal command media and applicable industry standards appropriately for a project’s complexity and risk posture in a manner consistent with customer expectations and Aerospace standards. 

This person will also support concept maturation and formulation, risk assessments, and project gate/milestone reviews ETG management will look to this person to provide objective project assessments and action oriented recommendations to support project success.

 

Key Functions

  • Support the roll out the Aerospace Product Development Process (APDP) framework, which is the overarching lifecycle process that guides innovative product development in ETG
  • Work collaboratively with line management, project management and project teams from across the corporation including iLabs, ETG and program offices to facilitate cost effective application of the Aerospace Product Development Process
  • Engage with Aerospace program offices to ensure an effective ETG/program office partnership for product development activities
  • Ensure “best practice” command media is optimized for utility, effectiveness and process improvement consistent with APDP guidelines and risk appraisal; and followed by program office and ETG teams
  • Lead ETG-wide problem/failure review process to collaboratively support anomaly investigations for ETG-produced systems
  • Represent OPM at internal design reviews, pre-ship reviews, and test readiness reviews for deliverable products and prototypes
  • Support quarterly ETG program management reviews (audience is ETG Sr VP and staff)

 

This position can be filled as a Senior Project Engineer or a Senior Project Leader.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 8 or more years of professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments with emphasis in development of deliverable hardware or software products
  • Experience in a project leadership role (e.g., project scientist, project manager, systems engineer, responsible engineering authority)
  • Experience with full lifecycle development of innovative prototype and quick reaction capabilities
  • Demonstrated success developing and leading multi-discipline teams to arrive at consensus opinions
  • Experience developing solutions to a variety of problems and determining the best course of action
  • Current and active Top Secret/SCI clearance

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree
  • Broad technical knowledge across major engineering disciplines strongly preferred
  • Experience developing products for R&D, prototype or pathfinder missions
  • R & D to technology transfer experience

 

Required for a Senior Project Leader

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 12 or more years of professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments with emphasis in development of deliverable hardware or software products
  • Experience in a project leadership role (e.g., project scientist, project manager, systems engineer, responsible engineering authority)
  • Experience with full lifecycle development of innovative prototype and quick reaction capabilities
  • Demonstrated success developing and leading multi-discipline teams to arrive at consensus opinions
  • Experience developing solutions to a variety of problems and determining the best course of action
  • Current and active Top Secret/SCI clearance
