Responsibilities

Civil System Group (CSG), a division of The Aerospace Corporation, brings engineering expertise and valued capabilities to U.S. Civil and Homeland Security agencies.  In this Systems Director role, you will provide overall technical and managerial leadership for CSG support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in providing engineering services to commercial space transportation, commercial space traffic management (STM), and other related projects as appropriate.  In this role you will serve as the management focal point with the FAA for the Aerospace Corporation.  You will work collaboratively senior managers and staff from the FAA along with Aerospace Corporation engineering and program development staff in establishing, executing and developing the FAA line of business.  

If selected for this position, you will:

•Provide overall day-to-day technical and managerial guidance and direction to direct reports within the Federal Civil and Homeland Security (FC&HS) Programs Directorate for the FAA customer in execution of customer support and business development activities.

•Provide technical leadership, oversight and direct support for all work and deliveries, and coordinate with subject matter experts and engineering support across interdisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.

•Support the development and documentation of corporate capabilities into service-line offerings.

•Plan and lead technical and programmatic and policy support to inform current commercial STM technical, operational and organizational decision-making. 

•Work with the government customer and Aerospace Corporation technical experts in formulating overall strategy, defining requirements, and evaluating government and commercial capabilities in STM.

•Assist in strategic planning and establishing external strategic relationships with potential partners, customers, and collaborators.

•Be the FAA program office lead for key customers, working with the customer and Aerospace Corporation technical organizations to establish a service-oriented customer support culture and technical support team structures.

•Apply Aerospace expertise to supporting objectives and plans (scope, cost, schedule, resource) for on-going technical and strategic studies.

•Establish and maintain key strategic relationships with FAA customers.

•Represent the organization in internal meetings and at customer venues.

•Liaison with joint agency task forces, government organizations, and academic institutions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • BS in Engineering, information technology, physics, or other technical discipline required.
  • A minimum of 12 years relevant experience that includes program office and technical leadership.
  • Demonstrated business acumen in planning, executing and managing tactical and strategic business plans in support of business goals and objectives, including planning managing scope, cost, schedule, resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in hiring, developing and managing qualified staff.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across different levels of customers, contractors and corporate staff. 
  • Strong broad-based technical skills in experience in relevant Space Traffic Management, Space Control, Space Situational Awareness and/or Space Asset Protection, Commercial Space Transportation, and/or UAS /CUAS technical disciplines is required.
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent action, mature judgment, outstanding verbal and written communications skills, excellent liaison and coordination capabilities, effective teaming skills, and ability to interact effectively with all levels of Aerospace, government, and contractor personnel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Secret Clearance and/or ability acquire a secret clearance and a TS/SSBI/SCI is required.

 

Preferred:

  • Advance degree. 
  • Experience in law enforcement and homeland security environments is desired.
