Responsibilities

The Engineering Specialist/Senior Engineering Specialist (Albuquerque) will work with the Director and the other members of the Vehicle Design and Innovation Department (VDID) and Architecture and Design Subdivision (ADS) management team to develop customer relationships; develop, grow, direct, and manage work in the Albuquerque area to support VDID and ADS activities. In addition, the Engineering Specialist/Senior Engineering Specialist will also serve as a liaison between the System Engineering Division organizations and Albuquerque area customers to include the Space Innovation Directorate and the Nuclear Operations Directorate. Members of VDID provide vehicle system engineering and programmatic support for its customers. Though the emphasis is placed on upfront system engineering, feasibility design and analysis, and concept development, VDID staff provide end-to-end system engineering support throughout a program life cycle. The selected candidate possesses experience applying and managing vehicle system engineering processes and tools throughout the lifecycle of space vehicle programs. In addition, the candidate will possess broad experience in leading and working with multi-disciplinary teams, organizations, and customers.

 

 

Key Functions

  • Lead and/or support the development and growth of the indigenous ETG/SED/ADS Albuquerque capability
  • Interact and communicate frequently with Albuquerque program offices and customers to develop and foster relationships
  • Work with Albuquerque program office, customer, and contractor personnel to elicit and identify needs, requirements, and constraints for studies; scope, plan, and execute studies; and effectively communicate task status, methods, results, and recommendations in briefings and formal technical reports
  • Direct Albuquerque technical activities, organize project teams and execute directly or through project teams
  • Determine ETG/SED/ADS staffing needs for the Albuquerque office and support hiring activities
  • Act as a liaison between ETG/SED and Albuquerque program offices to organize and direct SED capabilities
  • Supporting organizational Digital Engineering implementations
  • Act as a liaison to xLab, RAPID Center, and other prototyping capabilities as needed
  • Report Albuquerque organization’s activities, progress, and achievements through written and oral reports to management, subordinates, and customers
  • Closely collaborate with the Director and other Aerospace personnel to identify and organize technical expertise in multiple technical disciplines and domains to enable concurrent engineering approaches to address complex problems
  • Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the development and analysis of space vehicles
  • Lead and participate in conceptual and preliminary design studies of space systems
  • Evaluate spacecraft design and architecture concepts
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Mentor junior members of the department

 

Qualifications

Required for Engineering Specialist

 

  • BS degree in a relevant engineering discipline, science, or a related field
  • Minimum of eight (8) years relevant experience with previous personnel management and/or team leadership experience
  • Ability to organize and lead cross-functional, cross-organizational teams, initiate studies, work with a broad range of technical disciplines, and interact with program office personnel must be demonstrated, as well as working independently and being proactive
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, and demonstrate initiative under pressure
  • Familiarity with architecture and design; acquisition, analysis, and planning; mission assurance; and system analysis and simulation
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a wide variety of spacecraft systems engineering tasks from concept development to launch
  • Experience in developing, leading, and working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience in concurrent engineering tools, processes, and methodologies
  • Demonstrated technical spacecraft analysis and design support for feasibility studies, architecture analysis, and business case assessments
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong, demonstrated personal initiative
  • Current U.S. government secret clearance

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • Extensive use of MS Office and other computer applications, especially in support of space vehicle design and analysis
  • Program management and/or system acquisition experience
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with Digital Engineering
  • Current TS/SSBI clearance

 

 

Required for Senior Engineering Specialist

 

  • BS degree in a relevant engineering discipline, science, or a related field
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years relevant experience with previous personnel management and/or team leadership experience
  • Ability to organize and lead cross-functional, cross-organizational teams, initiate studies, work with a broad range of technical disciplines, and interact with program office personnel must be demonstrated, as well as working independently and being proactive
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, and demonstrate initiative under pressure
  • Familiarity with architecture and design; acquisition, analysis, and planning; mission assurance; and system analysis and simulation
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a wide variety of spacecraft systems engineering tasks from concept development to launch
  • Experience in developing, leading, and working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience in concurrent engineering tools, processes, and methodologies
  • Demonstrated technical spacecraft analysis and design support for feasibility studies, architecture analysis, and business case assessments
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong, demonstrated personal initiative
  • Experience with Aerospace customers in the Albuquerque area
  • Current U.S. government secret clearance

  • Advanced degree in related field

  • Program management experience
  • System acquisition experience
  • Flight operations experience
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with Digital Engineering
