Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation is looking for an experienced software system engineer with knowledge of software acquisition, software project management, software development, and software testing to join the Missile Defense and Space Sensors Division. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the Program Office has in-depth insight into the software requirements, designs, implementations, and testing associated with internal and industry-led projects designed to support the next-generation of airborne EO/IR sensors.

 

Key Functions

Successful candidates will assist customers with these types of engineering functions:

  • Provide software systems engineering expertise to ensure the effective management of large, software-reliant programs from source selection through design reviews, integration and test, and early operational testing
  • Participate in program-level engineering studies such as software requirements development and flow; software architecture evaluations; software integration, verification, and validation; readiness reviews; risk and opportunity identification, assessment, and mitigation; technology planning and insertion; performance assessments; programmatic assessments and/or market research
  • Support development of enterprise software strategies and architectures
  • Assure that flight software development adheres to the customer’s mission assurance standards
  • Liaison with customer team to include frequent communication, briefings, and technical discussions
  • Develop a working relationship with technical contractor team to influence successful program execution
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to disseminate findings, guidance, and technical information to a wide audience 
  • This position is located in Albuquerque, NM.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering or scientific experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or closely related technical discipline required
  • Experience with systems engineering and acquiring or developing large software-reliant systems 
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle, process, quality, and mission assurance standards 
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Experience with C++ and C#
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to work within a Government Program Office environment that includes managing multiple simultaneous tasks and adapting to changing priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups
  • Ability to occasionally travel to other Aerospace and vendor, subcontractor, or contractor facilities
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

 

 Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or closely related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated technical background in software engineering across the lifecycle from inception through design, construction, testing, and deployment
  • Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following: software acquisition, software processes & metrics, and/or software assurance
  • Experience with software engineering tools for development, configuration management, and defect tracking
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of customer, contractor and corporate staff
  • Ability to edit technical content for clarity; ability to present clear, concise briefings; ability to write well-crafted reports and assessments
  • Demonstrated background in software systems for complex EO/IR sensors
