Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Aerospace Corporation is looking for an experienced software system engineer and software acquisition expert to join the Missile Defense and Space Sensors Division. Our missile defense customer needs your help to acquire cutting-edge software capabilities to support future missile defense sensor capabilities.

Key Functions

Successful candidates will assist customers with these types of engineering functions:

  • Provide software systems engineering expertise to support the effective management of large, software-reliant programs from source selection through design reviews, integration and test, and early operational testing
  • Participate in engineering studies such as software requirements development and flow; software architecture evaluations; software integration, verification, and validation; readiness reviews; risk and opportunity identification, assessment, and mitigation; technology planning and insertion; performance assessments; programmatic assessments and/or market research
  • Support development of enterprise software strategies and architectures
  • Assure that flight software development adheres to the customer’s mission assurance standards
  • Liaison with customer team to include frequent communication, briefings, and technical discussion
  • Develop a working relationship with technical contractor team to influence successful program execution
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to disseminate findings, guidance, and technical information to a wide audience 

This position is located in Albuquerque, NM.

This position can be filled as a (Level 2) Project Engineer or a (Level 3) Senior Project Engineer.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering or scientific experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline required
  • Experience with the systems engineering and software development lifecycles and experience in acquiring or developing large software-reliant systems 
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle, process, quality, and mission assurance standards 
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups
  • Ability to occasionally travel to other Aerospace and vendor, subcontractor, or contractor facilities
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

 

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated technical background in software engineering across the lifecycle from inception through design, construction, testing, and deployment
  • Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following: software acquisition, software processes & metrics, and/or software assurance
  • Experience with traditional and agile-based software development methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of customer, contractor and corporate staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to edit technical content for clarity; ability to present clear, concise briefings; ability to write well-crafted reports and assessments
  • Familiarity with optical sensors in the development of flight software
